Between Jana and Jamilu.
My take on the call for outright ban on Almajiri and the obvious resistance!
No doubt this issue is very sensitive and has more social implications than one can imagine or predict. These days you see the dehumanizing state of children under the guise of Almajiri; a system of religious education practised in northern Nigeria where children as young as 3 or 4 years are sent to an unsanctioned religious teacher in a town far from their homes. They were Refused by their families. Used by their so called teachers. Misused by their so call benefactors. Abused by strangers. Rejected by society. Ignored by social institutions. Abandoned by the laws. Numbering to millions and still counting.
Children disillusioned by hunger and Homelessness.
And we see them everywhere. In silence we curse. In disdain we give. The logic is simple. They are victims of our silence. No one stood for them. No one speak for them. No one cry for them. And they are in millions. From childhood to maturity knowing only the hardest part of living.
Jana and Jamilu.
Jana lives with his parents. He attend a school with techers trained and under supervision. He sleeps next to his mother and listen to his father's instructions and never too far from his siblings corrections. Day in day out he learns the tenet and norms of the society. In school he learns science, art and other universal knowledge that some people called western education. And which really is not!. He play sports. Learn to read and write. He watches television. Get acquainted to social knowledge. Interact with other kids and share their knowledge too. His family celebrate his birthday. He knows some basic things about his background. Culture and family traditions are gradually becoming his way of life. When I took the photos of Jana he just finished playing competitive sport where he won a medal and a prize. When Jamilu was photographed he was sitting in isolation. Eating from the remnants given to him by people poorer than his family! Between Jana and Jamilu which do we wish for our child. Think before you resist. Is time we stop this threat to our children and next generation. And so shall we be victims of our silence.

Timi Dakolo, the real man of time...
In this clime, never speak out against infringement, you won't get sympathy but scorn. They will make a joke of your pains and leave you sorer. I speak from experience, because I am one of them.
In this clime, you have more defenders of absurdities than those anger by vices. We have seen them defend looters against their govt. It is not new, it's our ethos.
A woman debauched by the man she trusted, her family chose to cover up the crime because of stigma. She was left in battered bruised and walloped in excruciating pains. For years, she lived in bottled grief.
After many years, she was fed up with her hidden burden and got a man who believed in her happiness. She opened up to him and he rose in her defense, giving her the needed canopy of support. He helped her to heal and she is now a free bird- with unclipped wings. For Busola, this is her freedom path and she has arrived. She is healed and happy while her alleged rapist groans in stained conscience. She is up and he is torn in the shreds of nature's verdict.
For Timi Dakolo, you are the man that should represent real men in the table of heroism. Even with your fame, you chose the happiness of your wife over the distractions that come to your career. You are the man women should idolize, for you have defined what manhood is; a supportive rod of existence not only for copulation but for emotional support. Most men would shut their women in dead silence and allow the sleeping pangs of yesterday to slip by. You are the macho man of all centuries.
And for those in celestial defenses, shame on you, for those hired to burnish the image of her 'debaucher', continue, the millions will run out and more abusers would be left in multitude to wreck the world this time your cherished loved ones. For he who nurtures the snake will be bitten by the same snake- evil comes to perpetrators and her enablers.
And the proposed protest? No need, instead re-channel the route from COZA to Women Affairs, to Human Rights Commission, to the NBA to the National Assembly and demand justice for Mrs Dakolo and other many victims of debauchery. No amount of shamming will reduce the membership of COZA, in fact, it may even witness more influx- this is how the world is. The stained are more attractive than the righteous. It's a generational reality. Indoctrinated minds can never be swayed by the atrocities of their leaders but emboldened. Karl Marx wasn't in drunken state when he echoed, 'religion is the opium of the masses'. Remove religion from the head of man, you have paradise on earth.
